Wedding Rings For Her

The wedding ring, or wedding band as it is also known, is one of the most important symbols of enduring love. It is exchanged during the ceremony and, on the bride's fingers, shares the space with the engagement ring. While the wedding ring does not have to be as impressive, or expensive, as the engagement ring (that, according to tradition has to be set with a precious stone like a diamond), some thought still needs to be put in its design and what it is made of.

There are various options available to women when it comes to their wedding rings. Some women prefer to attach the wedding ring to the engagement ring to make one large ring. Others prefer to keep them separate. A common tradition is for the bride and the groom's rings to be similar in design and composition to bind them on another, physical level.

The usual design for wedding rings are plain bands of some precious metal, usually gold. The advantage of simplicity is that it tends to go with anything. It doesn't attract or detract to much attention and is usually acceptable in all company. When deciding on a design for the wedding ring, remember that you want a design that you will still want to wear in a few years' time and a design that is not going to embarrass you if you change jobs.

If you want the design of the bride and groom's rings to match, please bear in mind that the design has to be something that the groom will be comfortable with wearing as well.

Since a wedding ring is usually unadorned, the material that it is made of is one of the most important choices to make. Most wedding rings are made of gold. While 24k or 18k may seem like the ideal choice, remember that you are going to be wearing this ring every day for the rest of your life. While high karats will give a nice gold colour, the metal is soft and will scratch easily. The advantage of 14k gold is that the mixture of gold with other metals is enough to keep a nice gold colour while still ensuring that the ring is durable enough to survive the rigours of day-to-day life.

Other materials like silver and platinum are also good choices. The disadvantage is that silver is a soft metal, even alloyed with other metals. Platinum, on the other hand, when mixed with other metals can be very durable. If you want true durability and the ultimate expression of everlasting commitment, you could choose titanium or tungsten. While more often chosen for men's rings that women's rings, this hardy metal resists anything thrown at it. Just remember that if you want to resize the ring at any point the material of the ring is important. Titanium, for example, cannot be resized easily, if at all.

The choice of material will be affected by your lifestyle, your desire and your budget. More active couples that like the outdoors and adventure sports prefer simple, durable rings. A calmer couple, on the other hand, can consider a rings that may not be as durable or designs that are a little more intricate. At the end of the day it is a choice made by both people.

As far as the bride's wedding ring goes, though, fine and beautiful are good guidelines to follow. The rest, is up to you.
